So it’s been a few weeks since the Spillers Saturday Sessions ended, and what a summer it was!
Every Saturday, folk gathered in the Big Little City exhibition to celebrate some of the finest music Wales has to offer from one of its beloved institutions, Spillers Records.
Every week I’d look forward to the half an hour (or more if we were lucky) session at 3pm and I managed to make it along to almost every one. There were highlights, not many lowlights (that I can remember) and lots of fun was had by all.
I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite photos from the summer sessions here, so you can catch up with what you missed out on if you weren’t there, or relive some fond memories if you were.
Let me know what you thought of the sessions in the message box below, and if you had a favourite performer!
No.1 – Goldie Lookin’ Chain
It all started with Goldie Lookin’ Chain, it also started off with a stage that disappeared later on into the run of Saturday Sessions – perhaps it was too much of a health and safety hazard after all.

No. 2 – Huw M
The next gig was a bit more mellow, featuring the dulcet tones of Huw M:

No.4 – Soft Hearted Scientists
Unfortunately I didn’t make it along to the Llwybr Llaethog gig, so the next one I managed to visit was the Soft Hearted Scientists:

No. 5 – The Sunsets
Next up was the Sunsets, easily the most rock-n-roll of the entire summer, even with the septugenerian double bass player…. they also got the crowd pretty worked up…

No. 6 – Martyn Joseph
It was a crowded one this one, as Martyn regaled us with tales of fishing his earphones out of a bin while applying for his American visa… perhaps you had to be there (and lucky you if you were).

No. 7 – H Hawkline
It seemed hard to believe we were seven weeks in at this point, but the mellow stylings of H Hawkline were a real treat on a Saturday afternoon, with most people chilling out cross-legged on the floor.

No. 10 – Sweet Baboo
Unfortunately I missed a couple of sessions, but it was great to get back and see the wonderful music of Sweet Baboo, who really kicked back and even took his shoes off…

No. 11 – Zervas & Pepper
I managed to arrive late to this one, but no matter, what I did see was still great – and even brought along a baby to enjoy the music too (not mine, I hasten to add, but my nephew).

No. 12 – Christopher Rees
Well the 12 weeks seemed to fly by, and the final gig was finally upon us. BLC really pushed the boat out for this one, providing us with chairs! And with that, we had to go back to Saturdays without free music – boo!
